Background And Purpose Of The Retail Model

The intensity of the heat in Pakistan has reached its peak in the month of June. The temperature has crossed 48 degrees Celsius in many areas. In such circumstances, standing in long queues at campsites for hours was not only a torturous experience for deserving women but could also prove to be hazardous to their health.

In this context, BISP has introduced a retail model so that women can collect their money easily and respectfully from their nearest authorized shops. This model will not only provide protection from the sun and heat, but will also save time and make the process more transparent.

Meeting Details

The meeting held in Bahawalpur was attended by BISP zonal staff as well as representatives of partner banks. The meeting was chaired by Additional Secretary BISP Dr. Tahir Noor, in which a thorough discussion was held on the new retail model of payments.

Dr. Tahir Noor issued clear instructions that:

  • Every deserving person should be given his full assistance amount.
  • A formal receipt should be provided after payment.
  • The biometric verification process should be completed in all cases.
  • The money should be disbursed under real-time monitoring.

Bank representatives also assured the meeting that the deployment of all retail agents has been completed, cash availability has been ensured, and the biometric verification system is fully functional.

Steps To Inform Beneficiaries

Another important point in the meeting was that beneficiaries across the country should be informed about this change in a timely and effective manner so that no woman goes to the wrong place and gets upset. For this purpose, it was also decided to run an awareness campaign through SMS, social media, newspapers, and radio.

Visit To BISP Offices And Public Opinion

After the meeting, Dr. Tahir Noor also visited the BISP district office and Dynamic Registration Center (DRC) in Bahawalpur. During this time, he directly met the women present there, listened to their problems and reviewed the registration process.

He monitored the data entry, biometric verification, and registration process and made it clear that every complaint of the beneficiaries would be redressed immediately.

Benefits of Retail Model

This new policy of BISP 8171 will prove beneficial in several ways:

  • Safe environment: Protection from extreme heat.
  • Easy access: Instant availability of money from the nearest shop.
  • Time saving: Avoidance of long queues in the camp.
